ABOUT NOMVULA SHINGANGE
I am a technology-focused student leader and innovator at the University of Pretoria, currently serving as Chairperson of the Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology Faculty House. In this role, I represent and serve a faculty community of over 16 000 students across engineering, information technology, and the built environment disciplines, while leading an executive team of 11 student leaders responsible for driving faculty-level initiatives and student engagement.
My responsibilities include working closely with faculty leadership, student governance structures, and institutional stakeholders to support programmes that strengthen student development, collaboration, and innovation within one of the university’s most technically focused environments. My leadership focuses on building structures that encourage students to think beyond academic requirements and develop the ability to solve real-world problems using technology, systems thinking, and innovation.
Alongside my institutional leadership role, I am the Founder and CEO of Elevate AI, a technology initiative focused on business automation and digital skills development. The initiative operates with a dual focus, supporting organizations through automation and efficiency systems while also equipping individuals with the digital skills needed to participate in the online economy. My work is driven by the belief that Africa’s future depends on young leaders who are willing to build systems, create opportunities, and use technology to address real challenges in education, employment, and access to innovation.
Through my work at the University of Pretoria and my involvement in technology initiatives, I aim to contribute to a culture of innovation, responsibility, and active problem-solving among the next generation of African tech professionals.
