The Eastern Cape has a population of 6,562 million (2011). Its capital is Bhisho, but its two largest cities are East London and Port Elizabeth. The Eastern Cape has a well advanced economy in terms of natural and cultural aspects in this province.
It got Geekulcha in 2015 when the Geekulcha female wing helped host Hackathon in Eastern London. Since then, we had:
Its capital is Bloemfontein, which is also South Africa's judicial capital. Its historical origins lie in the republic called the Orange Free State and later Orange Free State Province.
It has an estimated population of 2 745 590 people.
We had always wanted to do stuff in the Free State but resources mostly did not allow. With chance, we did some of these:
Gauteng is one of the nine provinces of South Africa. The name in Sotho-Tswana means "place of gold." Situated in the Highveld, Gauteng is the smallest province in South Africa, accounting for only 1.5% of the land area.
With the support of mLab Southern Africa, Geekulcha was at The Innovation Hub's science park.
KwaZulu-Natal, a coastal South African province, is known for its beaches, mountains and savannah populated by big game. The safari destination Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, in the northeast, is home to black and white rhinos, lions and giraffes.
Limpopo is the northernmost province of South Africa. It is named after the Limpopo River, which forms the province's western and northern borders. The capital and largest city in the province is Polokwane (formerly Pietersburg).
Home to both Mixo and Tiyani, Limpopo got Geekulchad in 2014 in a collaboration with P-STEM.
Mpumalanga (Zulu name for "the place where the sun rises") is a province in eastern South Africa, bordering the nations of Swaziland and Mozambique. It embraces the southern half of Kruger National Park, a huge nature reserve with abundant wildlife including big game.
North West is an inland South African province that borders Botswana. Its landscape is defined by mountains in the northeast and bushveld scattered with trees and shrubs.
The Western Cape is a South African province with coasts bordering the Indian and Atlantic oceans. It's known for the port city of Cape Town, set beneath Table Mountain, part of a national park of the same name.
The Northern Cape is South Africa's largest province, with desert landscapes, wildlife and gemstones. With Botswana, it shares Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, whose red sand dunes shelter lions and falcons.
